OPM quietly awards large HR management contract to Workday

Through a sole-source contract, Workday will take over OPM HR systems for managing federal employee payroll, benefits, performance management and more.

I’m super curious how this will go…it’s got to be a lot for agencies and OPM to process all the changes and turnover.

I read that the contract with Workday was quietly canceled on May 9.

I just saw that they canceled the sole source justification. Not sure if that means the whole contract is then canceled, but I guess you can’t award sole source without the justification lol…

Quietly, then loudly

Whoops! Goodness. They have their own internal system - I wonder if it wasn’t handling all the layoffs and retirements?

I worked for an agency that was trying to develop a new HR solution. They gave up and the old monster is still going strong.

Then I went to work for a contractor that used Workday. It definitely has its quirks but it seems to be a leading HR management system these days. The problem is will the federal implementation be able to keep up with new developments? Or will it be like so many other systems where the commercial product is on like version 22.1 and the feds are still on 8.2 (made up numbers but I hope you get the idea)
