New York Jobs(?)

I understand why we have such a centrally located Defense and Homeland Sec industry around DC, but I (and many people I know) have an inability or simply no interest in moving to the DC area to work in the defense of our nation. Any advice for someone trying to find jobs in a state far away from the capitol?

When you’re searching on ClearanceJobs.com, you can narrow down by location and include your clearance level in the search - that should turn up different options.

Thank you! I’ve actually done that on clearnacejobs and I try my best but there aren’t really many jobs in my state or even the states surrounding me.

yeah, I would also join groups on your profile for the regions that you want to be in, so when something does come up, you’re up there on a recruiter’s list. You also may need to reach out to recruiters of companies that do have a presence. That helps get you on their radar - sometimes you never know. It is hard sometimes with national security and location. With remote work drying up for federal government employees, it’s challenging to sometimes find work outside the typical natsec hubs. Not sure if any universities near you have contracts with the federal government - that can also be a good option.

Actually DHS has jobs all over the country. They have a big center in St Albans VT which may not be New York but its not far away. DHS includes the Border Patrol and CBP which have locations all across the borders. Usually in pretty remote areas and there’s stiff competition to get closer to urban centers. You might also check out Passport Specialist positions with State Dept although they seem to open up only every once in a while.

Yeah! I currently work with a DHS guy who worked the northern border for a bit but then CBP tried to force him back to the Mexican border and he wasn’t having it. St. Albans isn’t too far away you’re right! I’ve got a friend with the state dept. but he’s in DC so not much help there. Your comment was a lot of help! Thank you!

Wow that is definitely better advice than I’ve recieved from anybody else! I’ll be doing that shortly!
