The Department of Education’s Washington DC and regional offices will be closed Tuesday evening and Wednesday for security reasons, creating turmoil among their employees. The department’s security office issued a memo to all employees from James Hartfield advising them to leave their offices by 6 p.m. EST and take their laptops with them. Employees can work from home on Wednesday. Update - Just received notice that the Department of Education to be cut by half, many to receive layoff (RIF) notices as early as tonight.
