# Manufacturing, Private Hiring Dramatically Increased in August

The U.S. economy added 162,000 jobs in August, nearly triple economists’ expectations. After years of decline, manufacturers added 16,000 jobs last month — the strongest monthly gain in three years — and 58,000 jobs this year. [This job growth](https://www.whitehouse.gov/releases/2026/09/made-in-america-manufacturing-private-hiring-power-explosive-august-jobs-report/) is driven by strong demand for pharmaceutical and **defense production** , data center construction, and semiconductor plants. This will create more opportunities for regulatory position in the federal government.
